Green Conferencing the Environmental Issue
Human induced climate change which results from increased 'greenhouse' gases (GHG) in the atmosphere is the greatest social, economic and environmental threat of this century. Carbon emissions caused as a result of travelling, be it either flying or day-to-day travel is one of the primary offenders it is also something that can be actively addressed by organisations who are taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint.
By its very nature, conferencing is a 'green communication' audio, web and video conferencing are not only a cost-effective alternative to the cost of travel and expensive hotel accommodation, but also an environmentally sound method of business communication.
In light of this, InterCall is leveraging their global position as specialist conference provider to help develop an integrated 'environmentally conscious program'. The increased use of virtual conferencing can:
- Increase the efficiency of communication with positive implications for energy conservation and pollution reduction
- result in tax benefits and other Government incentives especially with projected forthcoming legislation predicted to result in legal requirements to report and reduce GHGs
- improve a company's rating with investors, increase shareholder value and customer demand for services offered
- save on office costs by allowing remote and flexible working, at the same time improving the quality of work-life balance and ultimately staff welfare
InterCall's chosen carbon offset provider PURE has pledged to meet the proposed UK Government's Code of Best Practice for carbon offsetting including quality of credits used, transparency of costs and quality of reporting.
